Backing the People at the Front of the Classroom
Summer 2025 | Utah County, Utah
Long before students arrive, teachers are preparing the rooms where a new year of learning will begin. Lessons need materials, shelves need supplies, and each classroom brings its own set of needs.
In summer 2025, SMPLife Foundation donated Amazon gift cards to local teachers, including teachers early in their careers, to help with that preparation. The approach was simple: place useful resources in the hands of the people who know their classrooms best.
The gift cards gave teachers the flexibility to choose what would be most helpful. A teacher could direct the support toward the supplies and learning materials that fit their students and their plans. That choice mattered. The project was designed around trust in the people doing the daily work of teaching.
For a foundation, there are many ways to support education. This opportunity put the contribution close to home and close to the classroom. It helped with a practical part of getting ready for students while recognizing the care and preparation that teachers bring to a new school year.
The value of a classroom reaches into ordinary moments: a lesson beginning, an idea taking shape, a student trying again. Supporting teachers is one way we can contribute to the conditions that make those moments possible.
SMPLife Foundation is grateful for the educators who invest so much of themselves in their students. We hope this kind of direct, flexible support gives them a little more room to do what they know their classrooms need.
Know a new teacher that could use some help setting up their classroom or updating their materials?
