From a Slab to a Home in Agua Prieta
November 21–22, 2025 | Agua Prieta, Mexico
Over two days in Agua Prieta, a concrete slab became a home for a mother and her son.
SMPLife Foundation donated toward the home and joined family and friends in the work of building it. Volunteers framed and raised walls, installed rafters and roofing, completed trim, and helped with electrical work. Each task depended on another, and each person’s effort helped move the project toward the same goal.
The visit also brought time with the surrounding neighborhood. Volunteers brought balls and a piñata for the children, and the group celebrated with recipient families after the build. The construction and the time spent together were both part of being there.
There was a language barrier, but Shawn remembers being able to see the family’s excitement and gratitude for their new home. Their response made the meaning of the work feel immediate. It was deeply rewarding to play a part in providing something so important—something the family had not been able to obtain on their own.
That is the memory behind the finished walls and roof. A group arrived ready to contribute, worked alongside one another, and helped make a home possible for a family.
For SMPLife Foundation, this project brought charitable support and personal involvement together. Funding helped provide the resources, volunteers contributed their labor, and the result remained after the trip was over.
We are grateful to everyone who helped with the build. The home belongs to the family and their future. Being invited to play a small part in that future is a privilege we will remember.
